Holiday (Rock & Roll) Concerts

It all started with Halloran and I bullshitting in the bus waiting for the first band, The Royal Concept, to arrive. They were late. When they finally got there they were sweet boys from Sweden and were instantly forgiven. After their silly interview with Halloran about penguin soothing and dolphin polishing, I shot some portraits of them and then they were on their merry way. The shots I got of this band ended up being some of my favorites of the weekend.

Second band up was Scottish electro-synth-pop band Chvrches. Another bus interview, more portraits. Made it super quick cause it was freezing out! And, I’m not being weak, the band is from Scotland and they were cold too! Next up was an interview with Mikel Jollett from The Airborne Toxic Event and within 10 minutes or so, Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs from Fitz And The Tantrums joined the party. Once all the questions had been asked and the tape had stopped rolling, we headed into the arena. Inside, Kevin shot studio portraits of the bands and then it was showtime!
Fun Friday!

Saturday night was also a blast – my artshow – another story – read all about that here: http://rebeccajoelson.wordpress.com/2014/01/10/loose-behavior-ii/

Soon it was Sunday, time for 91X’s Wrex The Halls, again at the sports arena. This time the lineup was bigger.
J Roddy And The Business kicked off the evening with my best buds The Silent Comedy following them and Alt J after that. Next on the bill was Cage The Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend and wrapping it up with Queens Of The Stone Age. So good. My night kinda sucked because Live Nation refused to be nice so my access ended up being backstage only, no pit, no stage. The sense that makes is arguable, but it’s ok, I have faith that someday we’ll be friends. Other than no show photos, my Sunday was much like my Friday. Spend a lot of time with Michael Halloran, shooting both in the bus and in the VIP lounge. Highlights of my night? Getting to hug my bud Jon Theodore, hanging out with a bunch of my San Diego band friends, being with my boys The Silent Comedy for their first covered arena show, smoking spliffs with Alt J, and finally, enjoying the QOTSA show, in the crowd, surrounded by a bunch of my besties.
